Little Egret in PA?

Check out photos of this interesting egret, found yesterday by Chuck Chalfont. Without the characteristic head plumes, this is often a tough ID, since Snowy Egrets, Little Egrets, and even white morph Western Reef Herons can be pretty variable (some people would even say they belong to the same species). Since I saw a Little Egret last month at Bombay Hook, I'll probably skip chasing this guy. Of course, if I didn't already have Little Egret and Western Reef Heron on my ABA list, I might reconsider! At any rate, an interesting bird, and one that reminds us to look carefully at every bird we see.

In the past few weeks, I've spotted a large bird either an egret or a heron in a pond along Wambold Rd. in Montco. If you are coming from Allentown Rd., you would head past Asher's Candy Factory which would be on your right as you head down Wambold Rd towards Summneytown Pike. The pond sits on a property along the road next to the candy factory but back off the road enough that you will have to look if in motion. I've spotted the bird from my car early in the morning between 6:45 and 7:00 for several weeks now. Since I'm moving at a fast clip, and the road is heavily trafficked, I can't slow down enough to really get a look at him up close. He definitely has that prehistoric look, with the long legs and I often see him standing on the waters edge. He is an awesome creature. If I had a camara with a good lense, I'd take a snap shot of him for identification.
