In case you haven't heard, one of the next species to be added to the ABA Checklist of North American birds is likely to be the Black-hooded Parakeet, also known as Nanday Conure or Parakeet. Over 800 of these birds are breeding in and around St Petersburg, Florida. On Saturday morning, I was able to see several of these birds on trees and power lines on my way back from an Audubon bird walk to Fort De Soto Park.

Wow, I hadn't heard this. Interestingly, I was just in Tampa this weekend and saw one of these birds at Clearwater. I figured it was "uncountable", but that's good to know it might be soon. Too bad my non-birding friends didn't have time to seek out the other great birds in the area. I wish I knew FL Scrub Jay was so close by!!!!
We had (6) of these on the backyard bird feeder this morning (Jan 2011 - Boca Raton, FL). It took me a while to ID the bird since it has unusual all black markings around the eyes.
Most photos of Nanday Conures show white around the eyes.
Several on Anna Maria Island, north point. Saw a pair checking out a hole in a palm tree and screaming at a crow that landed on top of the palm
