Steve Martin was on Letterman talking about shooting The Big Year (see discussion from about 2:25-5:05).

Glad to hear they're showing good ol' trash dump birding.

That bit about the eagle over the water and the multitude of eagles at the dump was pretty good. Welcome to Birding!

I still cannot believe that they made a major movie about "The Big Year" and honestly dont have high hopes for the movie but I sure hope it turns more people onto birding!

I've been waiting for 30 years for Steve Martin to be funny. Still waiting. Then again, I am the weirdo who finds Jerry Seinfeld annoying, boring, and not funny. And I don't like ice cream. So I am just off-the-charts weird.

Anyway, I had assume that Martin plays Sandy Komito but IMBD is saying that Owen Wilson is Komito, Dustin Hoffman is Levinton, and Jack Black is Greg Miller.

I always wish I could spend most of my time birding, yet this book, as well as To See Every Bird on Earth, and the books by/about Phoebe Snetsinger were oddly unsettling. Perhaps because in each, birding actually seemed to become a negative, destructive activity. The only book about obsessive birding I found to be mostly positive was A Supremely Bad Idea, as it was mostly humorous and the birders in question kept some perspective.
