While taking my stroll through the woods and fields at work this morning, a nice dark Merlin came cruising in along the tree line, broke up a flock of Mourning Doves, and then perched on the top of a distant tree for 20 minutes to preen. A very nice welcome back to work present for a Monday.

We have a similar bird in our Salem, OR neighborhood that dive bombs mourning doves as they feed on the ground beneath our bird feeder. He comes in maybe 8 feet off the ground between the close together houses and catches the doves before they can get away. Also saw a pair of very large Collard doves ON! our feeder today. First time to see them for me.04-26-2013 Ed Fewx
