New Words for Old Birds: Carolina Wren

For years we've been taught that the Carolina Wren sings:

teakettle teakettle teakettle (listen here).

That's all well and good, but who in the upcoming generations has any connection to teakettles? Can't we come up with a new up-to-date mnemonic to help us remember the voice of this original Mouth of the South?

I'm leaning towards something like
Braves baseball, Braves baseball, Braves baseball

Any other suggestions?

I heard one on the west side of Chicago recently, at about six blocks south of the line that divides our baseball community. It was saying "Go White Sox, Go White Sox, Go White Sox!"

Eric, there must be an incredible amount of geographic variation in Carolina Wren calls ;-)

In fact, as I listen more closely to the bird in my backyard in PA I think I'm hearing "Go Phillies, Go Phillies, Go Phillies, Go!"

My favorite Carolina Wren mnemonic (couldn't wait for the chance to use that word!) is "Chippewa, Chippewa, Chippewa"

My mother assures me that they are saying "cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger!"

To all you baseball fans, it's
"Don't meddle, don't meddle, don't meddle."

They're clearly calling for that southern institution Sweet Iced Tea, Sweet Iced Tea, Sweet Iced Tea.

I can't stand the stuff, but you never argue with a Wren.

I always teach beginning and visiting birders:

"Look-at-me, look-at-me, look-at-me"

After much consideration, I think Drew wins--"cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger" it is!
